Summer Camp Award Fund 2008

We hope to offer Awards again in 2009, please check back next January for more information.


CHADD, in participation with McNeil Pediatrics, is delighted to announce the continuation of the Summer Camp Award Fund for children with AD/HD. The program, open to children of CHADD members only, is designed to help parents or guardians afford the expenses associated with attendance at specialty summer camps. Awards, up to $8,000 each, are payable directly to the selected camp for tuition and fees and to the parent or guardian for related expenses.

Below are some frequently asked questions about the CHADD Summer Camp Award.

Who is eligible for the CHADD Award?
  •Parent or Guardian applying must be a CHADD member
  •Child must be diagnosed with AD/HD
  •Camper must be between the ages of 6 and 21
  •Camper must be willing and able to attend an eligible camp

Which costs will the Award cover?
  •Camp tuition and registration
  •Camp fees including medication program fees
  •Travel to and from camp (any appropriate travel such as airline or bus tickets or documented auto mileage are acceptable)
  •Required clothing and supplies, if applicable.

How will Award recipients be selected?
The Summer Camp Award Committee will consider several factors highlighted on the application, including:
  •Diagnostic Information
  •Impact of AD/HD on the family
  •Financial Information
  •Education and Treatment

Will applicants be notified?
Yes, all applicants will be notified twice.
First, all applicants will receive an email confirmation that their application arrived complete. Then, all applicants, including recipients and those on the wait list, will be notified of their Award status by letter. We hope to have letters to every applicant by April 7, 2008.

Is this the application for the camp, too?
No. This application is only for the CHADD Summer Camp Award. Parents must apply to the camp of their choice separately.

The due date for the camp application is before April 7; should I wait to apply for camp?
No. CHADD encourages parents to apply to the camp of their choice as early as possible to secure a place for their child. Once applicants learn of their status as an award recipient or not, then they may notify the camp of how they will be proceeding.

How do camps become eligible?
For a camp to be considered eligible for participation in the Summer Camp Award program, it must have a relationship with CHADD demonstrated by meeting one of the following criteria:
     A.  Being recognized at an annual conference as an Innovative Program or presenting during a session at a CHADD annual conference.
     B.  Advertising with Attention magazine or inclusion in a Promising Practices column in Attention.
     C.  Exhibiting at CHADD's annual conference.
     D.  Being an Organizational Member of CHADD.

Where can I get an application?

When is the application due?
Completed forms, including the student profile form, are due no later than midnight, Wednesday, March 5, 2008.

How can I submit my application?
   •FAX the application to the Summer Camp Award Committee at 301-306-6788.
   •EMAIL the application to camp@chadd.org.
   Applications postmarked on or before Monday, March 3, 2008, may be sent by

   •Overnight applications sent on or before March 4, 2008, will also be accepted at this address.
