The Adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Treatment and Research Program (ADHD-TRP) at the University of Pennsylvania offers a unique approach to treating adults with ADHD and other secondary comorbid diagnoses. The goal of the Penn team is to better understand the complex presentation and pervasive nature of Adult ADHD and to subsequently develop a treatment protocol highlighting empirically validated interventions. The ADHD-TRP offers comprehensive evaluations and ongoing pharmacological and cognitive therapy for patients meeting diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Russell Ramsay, Ph.D. Associate Director, ADHD Treatment and Research Program Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry J. Russell ("Russ") Ramsay, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine, and a senior staff psychologist at Penn's Center for Cognitive Therapy. Since 1999, he also has served as the Associate Director of Penn's ADHD Treatment and Research Program (which he co-founded), which is dedicated to researching the distinctive effects of ADHD in adult patients and to developing effective treatments for this clinical population. Dr. Ramsay joined Penn's Adult Social Learning Disorders Program in 2004 to help in the development of diverse psychosocial treatments for adults with Asperger's Syndrome/High Functioning Autism (AS/HFA) and to collaborate on research. Dr. Ramsay earned his B.A. in psychology (with departmental honors) from the University of Miami in 1988 and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California in 1995. He completed his predoctoral internship at CPC Behavioral Healthcare in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Dr. Ramsay went on to complete a two-year postdoctoral training program at Penn's world-renowned Center for Cognitive Therapy, where he then became a staff psychologist and, subsequently, a faculty member in Penn's medical school. Dr. Ramsay's clinical interests have focused on providing cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for "complex" clinical problems, including adult ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and AS/HFA. His wide-ranging research interests have focused on various aspects of improving the quality of care for adults with ADHD and, more recently, AS/HFA, including: developing more accurate diagnostic assessments, researching neuropsychological functioning in ADHD (i.e., "executive functions") and in AS/HFA (i.e., "theory of mind"), transition to adulthood for young adults/college students with ADHD, and the effectiveness of CBT, often combined with medications and/or other psychosocial treatments, for these clinical populations. Dr. Ramsay hopes to become increasingly involved in research into psychiatric genetics and studies of brain functioning using neuroimaging technology for ADHD and AS/HFA. Dr. Ramsay has authored numerous professional articles and book chapters, and has lectured internationally to mental health professionals on adult ADHD and the principles of CBT. Active in community education, he has presented at local meetings of mental health organizations (such as NAMI), and served as an invited guest on public radio and America Online. In addition to his clinical and research interests, Dr. Ramsay also provides supervision in CBT to psychiatric residents and other trainees.

Master Reiki Adults and Children with ADHD are very tense and anxious due to their lack of focus or because they get easily overwhelmed with their responsibilities and activities. Unlike other forms of therapy, which require you to focus your thoughts, Reiki gives you the gift of silence, a unique opportunity to close your eyes, relax, and feel nothing. People who have tried Reiki claim to come home in a very relaxed state that lasts for days. Not only that, but Reiki helps them focus, improves their stress management, and dissipates sleep problems. In other words, it gives them a kind of peace they rarely get to experience by themselves.

Coach - Coaching Services

I help stressed-out and frustrated students become capable and confident. Together, we develop personalized strategies that are effective and engaging so students are motivated to make changes that enable them to realize more success in school and in life.I’m eager to work with students who:• Want better grades but don’t want to sacrifice a life outside of school• Lack motivation to get schoolwork done• Struggle with organization and knowing what needs to be done• Feel inadequate due to ADHD, executive functioning, or other learning challenges• Worry about moving on to high school or collegeI’ve been in the trenches with struggling students as they try to find their way out of the hole they’re in. School challenges not only impact students but can wreak havoc on the whole family. As a former educator, I understand the difficulties these students face in school. As a parent, I’ve experienced the roller-coaster ride of raising kids with ADHD, executive function challenges, and learning disabilities. Now as a coach, I work collaboratively with students to empower them not only to survive school but to thrive. I guide students in learning about themselves—their strengths and challenges—and in developing the skills and strategies they need. I provide just the right amount of support so they’re able to build lasting habits that will serve them well in school and into adulthood.

Coach - Coaching Services

As a master certified coach, I have specialized in coaching adults–professionals in the workplace, college and grad students for over 20 years. My coaching clients are looking for someone who really gets it. They want someone who understands what it is like to have lived a life with ADHD and what it is like to constantly work at overcoming challenges.
Each and every one of my clients is challenged by an over-developed nagging inner critic. This negative voice needs to change, and it really and truly can be changed to an internal supportive observer. I love helping this change take place.
While working on transforming that inner voice, you will learn more about your unique strengths. You will work from those strengths to utilize already acquired skills and add new tools and strategies to better manage your challenges.
Having ADD/ADHD means that you are tired of managing procrastination and overwhelm. You know there is more to living a successful life. You know you have more to offer. Toward the goal of living a rewarding and enjoyable life, I believe that everyone needs a team. I like helping my clients build a team of support.
Over my many years of coaching, I constantly seek to learn more about ADHD and about how we create desired change. I firmly believe in and support healthy body–healthy brain habits to improve functioning. In coaching, we will pay attention to stress, sleep habits, food and exercise as appropriate to exactly where you are and the changes you want to make. I believe that medication and the right doctor on your team is also very important. But this is always your choice.
Here's what I know to be true. Resiliency, creativity, wisdom and the uniqueness of the human spirit thrives in each person with ADHD, who can

My family experience living with ADHD prompted a mid-career change of focus from Adult Health Nursing (MSN - Arizona State University) to specialization and board certification in Child-Adolescent Mental Health Nursing (American Nurses Credentialling Center 1992). For twenty years I practiced as a mental health clinician on a part time basis, concurrently with full time employment as a professor of nursing (Clarion University of PA). My recent early retirement from teaching has created the opportunity for full time pursuit of my passion for assisting persons and families dealing with the challanges of ADHD and related issues. My practice, Partners in Care, provides a focal point for partnership with families, primary care providers, educators, selected professionals, and organizations. My commitment is reflected in my practice motto "my life work is making your life work!"
