Co-occurring Conditions & Genetics

Individuals with AD/HD sometimes have other conditions at the same time.

These are referred to as coexisting, co-occurring, or comorbid conditions. It is important that coexisting conditions are considered in the evaluation and treatment of AD/HD. The most common disorders to occur with AD/HD are:

Disruptive behavior disorders, such as conduct disorder or oppositional defiant disorder
Mood disorders, such as major depression or bipolar disorder
Anxiety disorders
Tourette syndrome
Learning disabilities

See the Coexisting Conditions section of the NRC Web site for more information.
