Co-occurring Conditions & Genetics
Individuals with AD/HD sometimes have other conditions at the same
time.
These are referred to as coexisting, co-occurring, or
comorbid conditions. It is important that coexisting conditions are
considered in the evaluation and treatment of AD/HD. The most common
disorders to occur with AD/HD are:
• Disruptive
behavior disorders, such as conduct disorder or oppositional defiant
disorder
• Mood disorders, such as major depression or
bipolar disorder
• Anxiety disorders
• Tourette syndrome
• Learning disabilities
See the Coexisting Conditions section of the NRC Web
site for more information.
