What Parents Are Saying About the Parent to Parent Classes
The value of Parent to Parent is demonstrated by these comments made
by teachers and parents who have taught or taken the class:
Can I just tell you how grateful I am for the parent 2
parent program? Because of what you all taught me, instead of
being frustrated and angry and emotional I am calm and proactive –
I know exactly what to do to go in and get my son what he needs –
and that brings me so much peace and joy. I know how to be a partner in
the process and that is just a blessing to me. - Kayla Lamoureax, P2P
Teacher
I wanted to thank you for all of your efforts in
developing the parent-to-parent program and for training me to teach it.
The course really gave me a new understanding of AD/HD which I hope to
share. I just wanted to let you know that your efforts have already paid
off. I spoke about AD/HD yesterday at a support group for moms of
special needs kids and I found that each and every person there was
dealing with AD/HD, though many had additional developmental disorders.
- S. B., New York, NY, P2P Teacher
Our daughter, Katie is doing great – largely in
part to what we learned at Parent to Parent with you. We followed your
suggestion to see a developmental pediatrician and it has made a
tremendous difference in our lives. When we started the class, Katie was
just starting on a course of Daytrana, and our regular pediatrician used
it for “everyone”, had “no complaints” and it
worked “all of the time”. As you can guess – after our
class that didn’t sit too well with us, the medication’s
side effects were intolerable for Katie and once we saw the
developmental pediatrician – it all fell into place. He helped us
to realize that she was not tolerating the stimulant medication well
because she had a high level of anxiety, the meds were exacerbating the
anxiety and needed to be switched to a non stimulant medication –
Straterra.(Which our regular pediatrician told us showed “no
effect” in ADHD and the drug reps were now using it for Dyslexia!)
She has been on it since late August and is doing very well in school.
So far, the behavior management system that the teacher uses for
everyone is working well for Kate and all we need to do is make it
through homework time – which can be hairy – and we’re
great. She is doing SO well, in fact, that she was one of 6 girls chosen
to be an elf in the Harford Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker.
Over 100 girls auditioned and only a small percentage were cast. For the
elves they were looking for children who had basic ballet skills –
but who could “pay attention and follow direction”. I truly
believe that we would not be doing as well as we are if we had not taken
the P2P class in the spring.- From Mary for Dr. Sharyn Rhodes
"I loved the introduction of each family at the first
meeting. I loved the interaction and the questions and
answers. Talking about specific situations has really helped."
"I really loved hearing the other parent’s
questions and responses. It helped me to see that my own situation
is not so abnormal—but more normal for all those other families
who have these challenges. This class has given me hope for my
child my AD/HD child – that he might be able to function as he
reaches adulthood."
"Somehow, everyone needs to get the word about these
classes, they are fabulous! – from a parent and a teacher."
"It was a GREAT class. Thank you for doing
it!"
"The general information helped us understand and
approach our child in an informed way. The school info and home
management info was very helpful."
"Worth its weight in gold!"
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! ---- If
no one else in the class was helped, it was still worth the effort that
was put in! My son and I were headed on a collision
course. ... I now have an understanding of ADHD and treat him
totally differently. I’ve learned to pick my battles.
Thank God for this class. You may have saved a life. For
sure you saved a father –son relationship. I hope you have
some small understanding of how important your work is."
"I liked learning how it AD/HD affects more people
than I thought and that I need to do the reading to understand what I
have. It also helped me to not give up on life."
"Thanks for giving me so much help for my own family
and also for the wonderful resources that I can use in my own
classroom."
"I enjoyed meeting other parents experiencing the same
struggles. Very informative—love the resource lists.
Very organized, lots of time for questions."
"I now know there is a lot that can be done to help my
child. It gives us hope that he will be able to function well in
adulthood. Thanks!!!!!!!"
"I don’t know what I would have done without
these classes. ... I was drowning and these classes
have saved my life! Because I now understand AD/HD and the issues
that surround it, I now have the ability to work with my family in more
effective ways."

"I want to thank you for the excellent job you and the
presenters are doing. I have done online courses before, but only
online without the live phone presentation. I find myself
more involved by both reading and listening to the presentation.
Thanks again for offering this course and the outstanding manual and all
for just $100." Michael
