Parent to Parent: A Family Training Program on AD/HD is a state of the art educational program specifically designed for parents, by parents.  The training is now available as an online class.  You can sit in the comfort of your home, watch the presentation on your computer while interacting with the presenter by phone.  This seven session class includes a state of the art curriculum with the training provided by an experienced and certified Parent to Parent Teacher.  Each of the two hour sessions covers an area of information absolutely essential to the successful management of AD/HD.  And best of all the training is from a parent’s perspective, by people who have faced the same struggles, questions and challenges you do.

Previous Presenters:

Toni Wood is the instructor for this class.  Toni was part of the first group to be certified as a Parent to Parent: Family Training on AD/HD instructor, in October 2004. She came to the training while serving as the Coordinator (and now as Co-Coordinator) of the Tidewater Chapter of CHADD, located in southern Virginia. She has two children (both boys) who have been diagnosed with AD/HD and has been married to her husband (also diagnosed) for 25 years. To say that her household sometimes resembled a circus may be an understatement at times, given that she also has AD/HD. With both boys now in college, Toni brings to the Parent to Parent course 24 years of experience dealing with children who have AD/HD, Special Education eligibility meetings, and 504/IEP meetings. She has taken her knowledge and experiences to go further and serve as an advocate to parents dealing with the school systems, and also to help adults understand how the AD/HD criteria affect them so they can experience more success in their daily lives, both personally and professionally.

Equipment Requirements:

Computer and Internet Connection:  The training is offered via the internet and by phone simultaneously.  You will need a computer connected to the internet.  If you have a dial up connection, you need to have a second phone line to access the audio portion of the class.   We will be sending you an internet address and a password to enter the class for each session.  You will see the PowerPoint presentation on you home computer screen.

Required Operating System:  Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4.0, 2000, XP Home, XP Pro, or 2003 Server

Required Internet Browser:  Internet Explorer 5.0+, Netscape 6.0+, or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or later

Required Internet Connection:  Stable 56k modem, cable modem, ISDN, DSL or better internet connection

Recommended:  Minimum of Pentium 400 MHz with 256 MB of RAM or more

Phone Connection: In addition, you will be dialing into the class by phone to allow you to both hear the presentation and to interact with the presenter.  The class participation is limited to 15 families to allow for questions and interaction.   Because each class is a 2 hour session, and the call is likely to be long distance, you may want to consider signing up for a calling plan that includes all long distance calls at no additional charge, if you do not have one already.  The training does not have an 800 number.  This would increase the cost of the training substantially.

(If your system will not meet the above requirements contact a Parent to Parent teacher in your local community and ask about class schedules.  Click on Parent to Parent Classes)

Cost:   $100 (Internet only) (Call CHADD if you have other methods of payment)
