Purpose
This award is bestowed on educators who have demonstrated
outstanding achievement as an educator of students with AD/HD. It
recognizes and rewards the special skills and excellence of teachers
throughout the United States.

Conference Highlights
|
|
The purpose of this award is to give recognition to
the educators of students with AD/HD who exemplify the highest
standards of their profession; and who, through their influence past and
present on the lives of young people with AD/HD have made significant
contributions to their school and communities. The following stipend
will be give to the CHADD Teacher of the Year:
• Registration to the 2009 Annual CHADD International
Conference
• Recipient will receive a recognition plaque
• Invitation to the CHADD VIP reception at the 2009 Annual
Conference
• Recipient will be featured in the 2009 Conference Program
Book
• A poster with photo and bio and will be displayed at the
2009 Annual Conference
Eligibility
The CHADD Educator of the Year Award is open to all
U.S. educators who meet the criteria listed below. Educators
may receive this award only once.
Criteria
Criteria includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Internal and external recognition of teaching
excellence and creativity impacting students with AD/HD, primarily by
parents as well as by teaching colleagues. |

• Long term commitment to excellence and originality in
teaching, as demonstrated by: |
| |
1. Excellent performance of daily responsibilities and
consistent devotion of time and energy to the student with AD/HD, beyond
the requirements of a nominee’s teaching position. |
| |
2. Development of effective and innovative teaching techniques,
methods, materials and new programs to enhance, strengthen, and
encourage the students with AD/HD to actively and enthusiastically enter
into the learning process; |
| |
3. Presentation in an interesting and stimulating manner of
subject and materials, to capture the attention of students with
AD/HD. |
| |
4. Demonstration of sensitivity to and respect for student
inquiry and discussion both in and out of the classroom; |
| |
5. Continuous efforts to evaluate and improve one’s own
teaching; |
| |
6. Evidence of academic and social achievements of students
with AD/HD; |
| |
7. Effective relationship with students; |
| |
8. Teacher has developed a system of communication/feedback
that engages the parent and enhances the likelihood of a partnership
between school and home; |
Nominations for the CHADD Teacher of the Year Award Procedures:
Please submit the following:
| |
• A letter of nomination. The letter of nomination should
speak to each of the criteria above; |
| |
• The letter must include the nominee’s name, work
and home telephone numbers and addresses, email address, a brief profile
of the nominee’s current school and students. |
| |
• A statement of the nominee’s teaching
philosophy; |
| |
• A chronological list of all teaching
experience/history; |
| |
• Any relevant supportive documentation. |
Schedule
The time schedule for submitting and reviewing nominations is set
forth below:
June 15, 2009 - An announcement is made to solicit
nominations for award.
August 1, 2009 – Nominations are due at CHADD,
Conference Department, 8181 Professional Place, Suite 150, Landover, MD
21108. Early submissions will be appreciated by the Awards
Committee. Proposals must be submitted and postmarked by August 1,
2009.
August 1, through September 15, 2009 - The
Teacher of the Year Award Committee conducts its review and informs the
President and CEO of its recommendations. The President then informs the
winner, and later the public (via the communications Department).
