Latest Thinking on Mechanism and Cause in ADHD: This session will provide a review of the latest scientific findings in regard to ADHD clinical correlates, subtypes, outcomes, neurobiology, brain findings, and etiology. It will also touch on key issues in diagnostic differential assessment and treatment planning.
Learning Objectives:Latest Thinking on Mechanism and Cause in ADHD: 1. Attendees will be able to recognize the major empirical and scientific strengths and weaknesses of the ADHD diagnosis. 2. Attendees will be able to recognize the importance of differentiating inattention from hyperactivity, while understanding weaknesses and options in the subtype classification. 3. Attendees will be able to describe at least two major established neuropsychological or neurobiological findings in ADHD, as well as at least one new direction that neurobiological research is going in ADHD. 4. Attendees will be able to achieve a relatively complex understanding of etiology of ADHD that recognizes the potential role of genes, environments, epigenetic processes, and their interplay.
