Description: SEMINAR [Parent/Caregiver] [Educator] [Spouse/Partner]

Children with ADHD are often very bright, but many are unable to “follow the rules”, comply with requests, or transition smoothly from one setting or task to another, among other issues. This presentation will provide guidelines for parents and teachers to consider when interacting with a child who has ADHD.
Learning Objectives:Ten Golden Rules for Interacting with Children who have ADHD: 1. Attendees will know at least five major reasons for lack of compliance in children with ADHD including: slower processing, difficulty focusing, emotional lability, poor “executive functions” and being overwhelmed by situations (oppositionality). 2. Attendees will learn ten guidelines to follow that will make children's home and school compliance more likely. 3. Attendees will learn what parent/teacher reactions to children's behavior get poor responses from children. 4. Attendees will recognize problem situations that are likely to elicit one or more of the child's challenging responses. 5. Attendees will utilize the "golden rules" above, by matching problem situations with at least one of the guidelines provided to better deal with that situation.
