Research Study Detail
Title: Integrated Treatment for Depressed Mothers of ADHD Children
Location: College Park, MD
Organization: University of Maryland (Maryland ADHD Program), with funding from NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health)
Description:

Parenting a child with ADHD can be stressful, yet most evidence-based treatments for ADHD do not include components addressing parental stress/depression. The objective of the project is to develop and evaluate a novel, integrated approach to behavioral parent training for mothers of children with ADHD who are experiencing significant stress and/or depression.

To be included in this study, mothers must:

  1. be the child's biological parent
  2. have at least mild symptoms of depression
  3. not be diagnosed with current substance abuse, psychosis, bipolar disorder, or other problems that warrant immediate treatment

In addition, their children must:

  1. be between the ages of 6-12
  2. be diagnosed with ADHD
  3. have an IQ within the normal range

Qualifying families will receive:

  1. Free psychological assessments of mother and child
  2. Free child evaluation report
  3. Free, 14-week parenting group
  4. Monetary compensation
