| Description: |
Description:
TEAMS is a unique, federally funded research program at Queens
College that attempts to directly target underlying brain mechanisms
associated with ADHD without using medication. It is hoped that it will
yield more enduring cognitive and/or behavioral improvements relative to
existing interventions.
Eligibility:
-
Children between 48 and 71 months of age (4 to 5 years) who appear
inattentive, hyperactive, and/or impulsive.
-
Parents and children must be English speaking.
-
Willing to attend sessions at Queens College.
Exclusionary Criteria:
-
Selected developmental, medical, or neurological disorders (i.e.,
epilepsy / PDDs)
-
Use of psychotropic and stimulant medication
Evaluation and Study Benefits:
-
Selected families come to Queens College for an evaluation of their
child's cognitive and behavioral functioning.
-
Those meeting criteria will be invited to participate in weekly or
biweekly 1 1/2 or 2 hour playgroup/parent-education sessions. Each
supervised session is divided into parent and child segments.
-
Child playgroups provide exposure to cognitively stimulating,
interactive games in a small group environment.
-
Parent sessions offer education and support.
-
Parents and their children will also be encouraged to engage in
games and exercises at home.
-
Participants will be evaluated on four occasions over the course of
the study.
-
All information will be kept confidential to the fullest extent
permitted by law.
