Educators' In-Service on AD/HD and Co-Occurring
Neurobiological Disorders
The 2008 Michigan Educators' In-Service is based on the
CHADD
Educator's Manual on AD/HD, a national resource mailed by CHADD to
America’s public schools over the past two years. The in-service
component of this national initiative will provide teachers with the
tools and practical application techniques needed to successfully work
effectively with children with AD/HD and co-occurring neurobiological
disorders. This training will help educators to achieve their classroom
goals, while meeting the needs of all students in their classroom
environment and promoting a harmonious and positive learning experience
and teaching environment.
All attendees will receive a personal copy of
the Educator's
Manual and lunch will be served at the in-service.
This is THE training FOR educators, developed
BY educators.
The training will include information and practical
application techniques on:
1. An overview of AD/HD science and implications for teachers
2. Identification of academic issues and effective intervention
strategies
3. Review of effective behavioral, social and emotional strategies
for this population
4. Problem-solving communication: parent & teacher
partnerships
Objectives
1. To provide up-to-date evidence-based information on AD/HD to
educators.
2. To increase knowledge regarding the profound impact of AD/HD and
executive function deficits on school performance.
3. To provide front-line teachers with specific intervention
strategies to address learning and behavioral/social challenges related
to AD/HD.
4. To identify common learning challenges among students with AD/HD
and review effective intervention strategies.
5. To make educators and parents aware of resources and model
programs that may be helpful in the education of these students.
6. To validate the critical role educators play in monitoring
academic progress, providing accommodations, and partnering with parents
and treatment professionals to ensure academic success.
